Looking Back - Gaalthyr - Fantasy Faire 2022

Ships exit the water and sail around Gaalthyr

Gaalthyr above the waters

Below Gaalthyr a sunken ship lies guarded by glowing statues (mermaid outfit a quest prize).

GAALTHYR

GAALTHYR
Sponsored by Jeanette’s Joint & Scarlet Fey

The last Fantasy Faire Region I visited was Gaalthyr - a unique world combining land, air, and water. I was tired after two weeks of visiting the Faire, but splashing into the ocean below Gaalthyr was refreshing - I found a sunken ship lay in the depths, guarded by glowing statues.

On the surface paths curled up around a large statue. Between the shops there were tablets which you could click to read parts of a the 'Life of Wilin' - with photos by Amethyst Ytelde and poetry by Banshee Heartsong.

You could ride a circling Gaalthyr Ship to take a tour around the Region.

Both the Gaalthyr Ship and the 'Life of Wilin' book were given as generous Quest prizes.

Looking Back - Atheneum - Fantasy Faire 2022

The sombre surface of Atheneum

Tunnels from the surface of Atheneum lead down to an eerie underground lit only by worm lights.

Atheneum is sponsored by the Second Life Syndicate, and put together by Helena Stringer, Yiva Korhnen, and Wat88 Zond. According to the website:

Four bloodlines and a team of scientists began a legacy centuries ago. Powers were unlocked and unleashed upon the world, growing through generations, until they reached a point of no return. Entering the modern age, to avoid catastrophe, the scientists decide it is time for this legacy to become legend. Not to be forgotten, they trap the spirits of each bloodline into a living exhibit of their history. The future now learns from the past, and their mistakes, in this eerie entombed museum.

The Chrysalis Gardens Region - Fantasy Faire 2022

The shops hang suspended like glowing crystal ornaments.

The Chrysalis Gardens Region is sponsored by The Looking Glass and created by Marcus Inkpen  SLURL

Sponsored by the Looking Glass

This was one of the Regions which rekindled my sense of wonder. Walking the spiral path through the tall trees, from sea level to the sky, was magical. Crystal greenhouses hung suspended on both sides of the wooden ramp.

Many lovely stores here, but I especially liked A shop  for Haveit Neox, and the structure for the Realm of Rosehaven with the bios of Rosehaven residents. At the Shaman's hut you could buy your own personal universe.

My Elfkin avatar enjoying his/her own personal universe.

Return to the Hunros Mines - Fantasy Faire 2022

Since my first visit to the Hunros Mines, The Children of Story had completed their story arc, so I went back to see all the things that had been revealed.

In town, an Elfkin talks to one of the Moles.
Meeting the Mother of Moles

A Sniffer mining magic.

A Sniffer facing the Dark.

Out of the Dark.

Mythspire Ridge - Fantasy Faire 2022

An immense statue of the Mythguard, by Elicio Ember, stands at one end of the Region*

Mythspire Ridge is sponsored by Cerridwen's Cauldron, and created by Elicio Ember. It is the main region for the Literary Festival, where the Litfest Tours begin, and it also has a display of literature relevant to Second Life.

There are many meeting and event areas throughout. The shops and halls on the upper level reach into the sky.  At one end of the upper region, the Mythguard statue by Elicio Ember stands guard.

Humans and animals are dwarfed by the soaring crystals and the grand architecture.

*Photo of Mythguard Statue taken using 'Sunset' settings.  I had to defender the buildings closest to it to get all of it in the photo.

The Clouded Mountains - Fantasy Faire 2022

The Clouded Mountains is a region dedicated to the FF Quest. This slurl may land you on the rock in the picture.

I snuck over to take photos of the breathtaking scenery. The Quest HUD was not responding, Cheeky, my companion animal, wasn't talking to me. Neither were any of the other animals on the Region.

Suddenly, a note that the Quest has begun!

Waiting impatiently for Quest to begin

The Clouded Mountains is a beautiful Region, with waterfalls, tunnels, and hidden areas. I finished the Quest mainly using guesswork rather than figuring out things intelligently, which left me a bit disappointed. The prizes were, as usual, multitudinous and magnificent. I will be writing thank-you notes for the rest of the year.

Iridescent Keys - Fantasy Faire 2022

A beautiful Siren Statue by Dani dominates the under-sea area.

Iridescent Keys is sponsored by Safe Waters Foundation, and made by Allie Munro.

This is another Region without markets. One unusual feature is that if you map/teleport from out of the FF regions you arrive over the water, and have to find a diving spot. The official slurl takes you directly to the below-surface landing.

The surface of Iridescent Keys serves mainly as a path between Effervescent Clefs and The Clouded Mountains

Sunken Honey - Fantasy Faire 2022

Sunken Honey Region is sponsored by Misfit Dance Arts & Entertainment Region, and created by Lilia Artis and Haveit  Neox.
Is this the lost Queen and the Nautilus Clover she searched for?

The region is named  'Sunken Honey' because the art and landscape illustrate the tale of how a two-thousand-year-old-colony of bees perished in the ocean when the bees that were carrying the hive could no longer fly.

Above water you see the hives being carried by the laboring bees.

Look at the surface of the water - it carries ghostly silhouettes.

There is nothing for sale in this Region. Neither Haveit  Neox or Lilia Artis have stores on the Marketplace, although they are always generous to charitable causes and provide Quest prizes and auction items. Haveit Neox does have a store in Fantasy Faire.  After the Faire,  I strongly recommend you make a visit to ACC Alpha. There is a lot to see and do there.

Tenpyo - Fantasy Faire 2022

A statue of Shou Kannon Bosatsu

Tenpyo is sponsored by Gabriel, and created by Takuya Jinn.

According to the webpage, Tenpyo is guarded by four divine figures: Azure Dragon to the east, White Tiger to the west, Vermilion Bird to the south, and Black Tortoise to the north. You have to look up to see them.

At first the landscape in Tenpyo seemed washed out, but as my eyes adjusted I could see the subtle ranges of color, and it was very soothing.

A shrine to Shou Kannon Bosatsu is in an interior grotto. This Bodhisattva presides over the virtue of saving ordinary people, and is known for mercy and compassion.

There are a lot of stores in Tenpyo for folks who are looking for Asian costumes and decor, but one store I particularly liked was *SR* which stands for -spirit representation-. Be sure to look up.

Effervescent Clefs - Fantasy Faire 2022

A Dinkie kitten reconsiders her landing spot.

Phantom fish rise from the keyboard below the falls, spiral through the water, and return.

Effervescent Clefs  is sponsored by The Realm of Rosehaven, Fantasy Faire Radio, & Live at the FaireChylde. Structures made by Allie Munro.

It is the party region, with the Party Boat, the Fairchylde, serving as a dance floor in the sky. See if you can find all of the musical instruments that at first seem to be part of the landscape.

You can also find the auction items, and vendors offering merchandise from this and previous Faire. There are also a few interesting stores.

As always, I am intrigued by the little details, like the fish rising from the keyboard, swirling through the water, and returning.

Sylvuselah, Fantasy Faire 2022

A ship waits at anchor near the base of the Mother Tree.

Panibous waits patiently to speak to passers-by.

Sylvuselah is sponsored by Novus Ascending, and created by Ketsui Naidoo, Grimoire Hexem, and robynredhead.

The website tells the story of how three magics came together, and the Mother Tree, Sylvuselah, was born. Her lore master, Panibous is a giant whale creature seemingly floating in air.

An elevated wooden walkway circles among the Mother Tree's trunks, past stores with intriguing merchandise, down to an area where you can speak with Panibous.

The colors glow and vibrate. Don't miss it.

I especially liked the store that sold capybaras, and Multifarious.

Opet - Fantasy Faire 2022

The Opet Region is amazing. Every view is breathtaking.

The website gives you more information.  Don't be so entranced by the surroundings that you miss the shops, which are full of elegant and exotic merchandise.

One view as you enter Opet

Part of the Faire Quest takes place in Opet, but there is also a separate Opet quest where you hunt for sigils to qualify to become Thoth's apprentice.

Boats sailing from the falls at the pyramid head for the open sea and disappear.

Aarkenfen - Fantasy Faire 2022

Aarkenfen is sponsored by Dandelion Daydreams Factory and created by Alrunia Ahn and Luna Barak.

It is a quiet place where rock has taken organic shapes.

See the web page for more information.

Look near the entrance for information about the Mini Quest.

There are a lot of great stores in this region.

I recommend Dandelion Dreams, and Shaman's Hut, among others.

The Carnelian Archive - Fantasy Faire 2022

What secrets are they guarding?

The Carnelian Archive represents an immense library. Some say it contains all the knowledge of the world. I don't know about that, but I do know that there are books - everywhere. The corridors are lined with bookshelves, there are books in piles, on tables, and even books with wings...

And there are stores - each store a separate world. It is easy to go in a store, be dazzled by what you see, and lose your bearings when you exit.

The webpage will give you more information about The Carnelian Archive. It does not explain why, on each side of the entrance to Petrichor (the region sponsor) there are magical portals guarded by pairs of knights who are polite, but who will not let you pass. What knowledge is hidden behind the portals?

You can buy your own bookshelves, and reproductions of the builds, at The Dreaming Thicket. Or, if you prefer your books less tidy (perhaps piled on the ceiling?) you can shop at Grey's Mind Maze.

If I were to list all the wonderful shops at The Carnelian Archive I would just be replicating the shopping list on the Fantasy Faire blog, so I just recommend you take a day and explore there.

Here is the SLURL for The Carnelian Archive.

The Hunros Mine Region at Fantasy Faire

The Hunros Mine Region in Second Life's Fantasy Faire 2022 is a mining town carved into a hollow of the earth. Steep paths lead you down, past intriguing shops, to a rocky stream. Still further down I found twisting tunnels full of odd creatures and the Mother of Moles.

Legend is that they used to mine magic here, but now the magic is acting erratically. Join Loki Elliott's Children of Stories role-playing adventures to help solve the mystery, or you can watch as part of the audience.

Wearing: A mixture of items from previous Fantasy Faires. Only one item, the Analog Dog Zen hair, was bought at the current Faire.

Second Life: Japanese Shrines and Temples

At one time I wanted to do the Shikoku pilgrimage in Japan; however, that is no longer possible for me.  So, I was delighted to find that...
