A statue of Shou Kannon Bosatsu |
According to the webpage, Tenpyo is guarded by four divine figures: Azure Dragon to the east, White Tiger to the west, Vermilion Bird to the south, and Black Tortoise to the north. You have to look up to see them.
At first the landscape in Tenpyo seemed washed out, but as my eyes adjusted I could see the subtle ranges of color, and it was very soothing.
A shrine to Shou Kannon Bosatsu is in an interior grotto. This Bodhisattva presides over the virtue of saving ordinary people, and is known for mercy and compassion.
There are a lot of stores in Tenpyo for folks who are looking for Asian costumes and decor, but one store I particularly liked was *SR* which stands for -spirit representation-. Be sure to look up.
