Second Life History - A Visit to Luna Oaks Galleria Mall

Luna Oaks Anchor Store #2
Amondeau Artisans Collective run by Kilara Balnarring

Luna Oaks Galleria Mall in the Luna Region is an early Linden Build that has stood the test of time. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Luna/83/72/24

According to the Destination Guide "Luna Oaks Galleria is a great place to go for all of your shopping needs! Residents can enter to win a space in the Luna Oaks lotteries and sell their wares."

Southeast of Bay City, this is one of the few (If not the only) shopping mall owned and run by Linden Lab. According to parcel information, Mick Linden is the founder of the Luna Oaks Galleria Tenants group, which has 34 members. Apparently spaces are allocated by lottery.

The Galleria was first announced by Haney Linden on the forums on 12-18-2003*. The build is by Xenon Linden and the water fountain was scripted by Ben Linden, so the complex predates the Mole Era.

Most of the stores have not changed for years, but the Mall is well-built, with modern conveniences like escalators and a programmable fountain. The two Anchor stores on each end of the Mall appear to be still active.

I especially like the Luna Oaks Galleria Anchor Store 2 which has free and inexpensive art and a free rideable flying pig.

The free flying pig, plus the piglets in the store.

There is a trolley line that runs from Luna through Sistiana, Barcola, Miramare, and Dore to the Ahern Infohub and back.

Creators of Region objects are Eric Linden, Xenon Linden, Ryan Linden, Michael Linden, Dyna Mole,  and Ben Linden

Information for this article copied from fandom and SL wikis, and a notecard from 2005.

Note -According to the fandom wiki, there used to be a subcontinent called "Shopping" which disappeared around the time they started building Bellisseria. https://slgi.fandom.com/wiki/Shopping_Continent, The "Shopping Continent" is also mentioned in the Second Life Wiki: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Shopping_Continent

For history buffs, In 2009 resident Icarus Fallen decided to cross Sansara on foot. In 2013 he had covered 513 Regions and then just stopped posting.  Here is his entry for Luna Oaks Galleria Mall http://across-sansara.blogspot.com/search?q=Luna+Oaks
