Fantasy Faire Regional Hunts 2023

Besides the larger Fantasy Faire Quest,
there were a number of Region Hunts and Lore.

Fungalmire:

In Fungalmire, The "Old Fox and Friends Hunt" asked you to find five stumps marked with an animal carving. Each stump contained a few short sentences by Anne Louise Avery, the LitFest Guest of Honor. The prizes were the stumps themselves, which were made by DaveOSaurus, world builder of Fungalmire and mesh artist at Crocodoggle* in Second Life.

I found a stump with the carving of a hedgehog.

GIGGENWHIRL:

In Giggenwhirl, the "Cloud Hunt" asked you to find seven clouds. "Giggenwhirl", I think, was just the turn around of 'whirligigs', which were abundant there.  The lovely child-bright colors made me giggle and I kept thinking of 'Giggenwhirl' as 'Giggleworld'.

That pink decal by my feet is the cloud.
I was looking for clouds up in the sky. Silly me!

NYSARIS:

In Nysaris the hunt was called "A Song of Nysaris" and the goal was to find ten hidden stone tablets. Each tablet contained a chapter of the history of Nysaris, and a unique music box that played music composed by Kadaj Yoshikawa.

One tablet found, nine to go.

The tops of the music boxes shows a scene from Nysaris.
Wonderful work and wonderful music!

OPERA;

In the Opera Region, sponsored by Alia Baroque of Fallen Gods, the hunt began in the Conservatory. When you clicked the sheet music you were given a link to a website made by Lorin Tone of Lorin's Sound Effects Shack. At the web page you could listen to a sample of the music, see the title of the piece, and get a clue to where you could find the matching document. The prize itself was a virtual copy of the libretto containing both deco and audio copies of the music.

The clue was related to "vestal hands" and the prize was in the small tray under the facade over the door.

SZSTRYUM SYNOD:

In Szystrum Synod the "Lore" Mini-Hunt tasked you with finding datapads filled with short stories about lore and the text of conversations between the Szystrumites. This quest was the most difficult for me, but the story that unfolded as I gathered datapads was also one of the most interesting.

You started the Quest by clicking on Kortyr Oovmakyhm.
Finding the all the datapads for one of the Houses in the Synod got you a badge,
getting all the badges got you the final prize.

Region was sponsored by Contraption and the Region made by Walton Wainright. Right now you can visit Kortyr Oovmakyhm at Contraption.

The WooHoo Bay Quest was "Do Not Touch the Drakes!" (and no, we're not talking about ducks here).

WooHoo fire lizard salesman sending you on another quest to help find the cure.

Of course, when you are told not to pet the Drakes you pet the Drakes. And, of course, you end up catching a deadly disease. Hunt for the cure involves a complicated fetch quest, going from one WooHoovian to another, until you finally end up meeting the Volcano God. (and boy, is he grumpy.) Although there was much dark humor and some depressing dialogue,  I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the highs and lows and depths of WooHoo Bay and talking to the whimsical residents. It was a nice break from some of the more sombre quests and I'm very sorry it has disappeared into the mists again.

WooHoo Bay was sponsored by Soul and PolyPlace in Storybrook. Region is attributed to Riven of Rivendale**.

Second Life: Japanese Shrines and Temples

At one time I wanted to do the Shikoku pilgrimage in Japan; however, that is no longer possible for me.  So, I was delighted to find that...
