Libraries and Learning Centers in Second Life

Quiet reading at Cape Serenity Library (book is a prop)

Libraries are not just places with shelves full of physical books or other media. The American Library Association's  simple definition of a library is:

"A collection or group of collections of books and/or other print or nonprint materials organized and maintained for use (reading, consultation, study, research, etc.)."

Here are a few libraries and learning centers in Second Life:

------------------------------------

Caledon

Caledon has a large number of small libraries, some focusing on Steampunk and Alternate History.
Go down the stairs and to the right to see a bulletin board with a place to touch to get a list of Library Landmarks in Caledon.
Although a few of the links are no longer valid, there are still a number of unique places to visit.
A library surprise: This library showed my profile picture. So much for trying to dress to fit in.
------------------------------

Cape Serenity Library
Click on each book to get a notecard or URL to the story. This library's focus is on books by and for the disabled. There are free audio book readers available.

------------------------------

Rockcliffe University Library
The library will be behind you. On the back wall there are posters with links to other libraries and places of interest. The rest of the campus is also worth visiting.

------------------------------

Bibliothèque de Coeur
The two buildings house a great collection of interactive audio books illustrated books, books that lead to interactive text on the web, and books that recite poems when touched. Although it is set up as a bookstore, there are actually few books on sale, and you can read most of the books on display.

-----------------------------

Community Virtual Library
The CVL Library in SL is just one branch of a Metaverse Library project

Library Land
Library Land has a fascinating archive of short poems and related material written by residents during Short Poetry Workshops from 2008 to 2021.  Click on the volumes on the bookshelves to get notecards explaining the type of poetry, examples, and the workshoppers' contributions.

Grendel's Children Library (In basement)
Direct teleports don't work. When you arrive, go back around the stairs with the "Miscellaneous" sign on top, then go down ramp, then go right. Click on the top of the card catalog to get a complete list of books in the three bookcases. Select your book from the shelf. You will get a textured prim book which you will have to unpack to get the text.
