I went to Kitely today to visit a place I had heard mentioned during the recent VWBPE Conference. Unfortunately I was not able to enter that particular world because entrance had been set to 'members only'.
Still there are many places open to tourists. Kitely is interesting because it is a virtual world using some of the same features as Second Life, and it has different advantages and disadvantages.
Unlike Second Life there are not large public continents to explore. The 'Community Center' provides some information, and directs you to where to find free avatars and clothing, but after that you are on your own. I could not find anything like an orientation area, or the equivalent of places like Happy Hippo or Builder's Brewery, but there is a Kitely Blender group.

Buying a world in Kitely could be an inexpensive way for someone to practice building and landscaping. You can get a 'Starter World' with an entire region, and 15,000 prim limit for $14.95 a month, with a money-back guarantee if you are not happy (within 14 days).
