Searching for an Affordable Parcel on the Mainland

After I sold my last parcels in Mocha I decided to see if I could buy a 1024 parcel for each of my five alts. Their memberships would expire between 3-31-22 and 6-27-22 and my plan was to evaluate the parcels, and then downsize to one parcel and one Premium alt at the end of that time.

I visited most of the continents and areas - Heterocera, Satori, Sansara, Corsica, Jeogeot, Nautilus, TSL (Sharp), Horizons, Bay City, and Zindra. Horizons, Zindra, and Bay City had NO parcels in my price range, and options were sparse in the other places.

I wanted:

-land accessible to road or water traffic

-that I could afford

-with not-obviously-pervert neighbors

-and not too laggy

I searched using different methods - using "land sales" under 'Search', forum postings, listings from real estate companies, auction listings, and just flying around from one yellow 'land for sale' spot to the next. On each continent I would make landmarks for parcels as I visited (ie..."Possible #1" etc..) and then came back later for a second look before deciding. Periodically I would try for different types of Bellisseria parcels, but never found one that felt like home.

It was disappointing how many plots looked like they would work but were in fact land- or water-locked. Some land ads actually misrepresented which continent the parcel was on. I used my "Where the heck am I?" gadget to double-check*.  In the end I had to compromise,  but I did get workable plots on five continents. The least expensive was being sold by someone whose neighbor had put up a 'spite build'. The most expensive was one being sold by a large real estate company. I did not buy ANYTHING from sellers who bombarded me with notecards and landmarks as soon as I landed, or who had huge "For Sale" signs on the parcel.

Based on today's Linden dollar to US Conversion my average cost per parcel was $17.53. I think this is a bit high for the average newcomer. The cost would have been a lot less if I had not wanted parcels with road and/or water access.

These snapshots were taken with "Show land owner" filter on so that what I bought shows as green and everything else was red. Two of the parcels are actually on rock - I've put the terrain types in the captions.

Celchu Region in Corsica. Terrain is grass.

Enzo Region in Nautilus. Terrain is mottled grass.

Gnoma Region in Heterocera. Terrain type is rock.

Westport Region in Sansara. Terrain type is rock.  The bottom of the cliff has a small spot on water.

An interesting note about the Westport parcel. When I viewed it it had a platform and gallery and the ad stated "Objects included", but after I bought it the only object I found was a 3-prim 'wall radio'. The land description indicated that there were still 6 prims-worth of objects on the parcel but they didn't show in search. I ended up flying to 4000+ feet where I found more radios and security equipment.

Dinah Region in Satori. Terrain is mottled grass.

Update 1-16-22: The ugly parcel next door in Gnoma went on sale for 15,00 but was reduced to 9000. They also took out part of the 'spite build'. Unfortunately, the lovely parcel across the street is now also for sale. You can't win. I think I will set the Gnoma parcel for quick sale.

Update 1-21-22: After spending all week trying out different builds on different parcels I set all but the Westport parcel up for sale at the prices I paid for them.

*Continent Locater script can be placed in any object. You could put it in a bracelet, for example.
